To get you up-to-date

So, to get you up-to-date, according to calculations, today is the last day of my first trimester! Every time I go to the doctor's on Mondays, I am a certain number of weeks plus 2 days. I'm assuming those 2 days are always Saturday and Sunday, so that the weeks end on Friday. To those of you who might know better than me, please correct me if I'm wrong! :)

Since my last visit to the doctor's was on November 9th and my next visit is not until December 7th, I can't update you on baby's size or what it's been up to. However, I can give you a break-down of what I'VE been going through these past few weeks!

- NO ENERGIE! For several weeks, I had absolutely no energy to do anything after work, was completely lazy, had to take breaks doing housework, etc. It's slowly getting better, although my body definitely lets me know when it's time to take a break. I'm just embracing the excuse to be lazy!
- Slight nausea. Not every day, not all the time. Mostly in waves. I didn't have to actually throw up too many times yet. I have made several trips to the bathroom, but it was usually just "dry-heaving". Brushing my teeth also triggered a natural gag-reflex, which I've never had before. It could be much worse, though!
- Difference in appetite. I'm not having particular food cravings/aversions so far. The first few weeks, I did notice that my sweet tooth seemed to have disappeared. I was always one to snack in-between. Cookie here, piece of chocolate there, regularly nibbling on something sweet. For several weeks though, sweet cravings turned into salty. Crackers, cheeses, chips, etc. The sweet and salty are starting to become more balanced again now. I was also never a huge coffee drinker, but I usually had my morning cup of cappuccino or latte machiatto when I got to work. That is no longer the case. Not because of the caffeine, but because I just can't stomach it as well anymore.
- Bad, bad skin. I feel like I'm back in puberty! Breakouts, oily skin, the whole program.
- Frizzy hair. Maybe it's the colder weather, maybe not. My hair has become a little unruly. No conditioner, gel, etc. has given me nice, smooth hair so far.

All-in-all, it could be much worse! I am taking it mostly in stride. Since I know the cause, it's not so bad. :)

There are many many pieces of wisdom that claim to predict the gender of the baby according to certain "side-effects". I don't really believe in them, but one I read was that, "Boys make their mothers more beautiful; girls rob their mothers of their beauty". It might be more accurate to have others voice their opinion on this one, but when I see my hair and skin in the mirror every day and think of this quote, I can't help but think - "Hello, baby girl".

Speaking of which: Yes, it's too early to know if it's a boy or girl yet. I think you can start to tell around 16 weeks or so. At the moment I'm thinking that I want to be surprised. I'll probably change my mind several times, though. If Guenni wants to find out, we'll have to see. We have a few more weeks to decide.

  3. Michelle...I only wish you could see the look on your mom's face when she talks about her "first grandchild". She is always smiling, but there is a different kind of smile on her face then. Anticipation, pride, joy, love, anxiety...all rolled into one tiny smile. It's amazing to see! You can hear that smile in her voice as she speaks. Congrats to you both!

I'll be checking in often for pregnancy updates, and I won't be offering any advice but this...enjoy being pregnant, embrace all the feelings and emotions. It was one of THE best times of my life!

    Peace, love, and popsicles!
